Additional Information

In 1960's, founder Lisio Plozner, an entrepreneur with a passion for fine wine, was the first to believe in this amazing rocky, unwieldy soil, and pioneered winemaking in the area favoring ingenious technology and natural vineyard management. Three generations have now followed each other, each distinguished by family members that have, all in their own way, left their mark, on the vineyards, on the winery and its organization, always giving new life to its growth and its image.

The Plozner property's 150 acres under vine are located in the Grave appellation, which takes its name from gravelly alluvial soil in the Friulian foothills in the heart of Friuli. The particular soil, 70% gravel, conducive to naturally small crops and excellent draining; the micro-climate dry, cool, protected by the nearby morainic hills and Alpine range - favors healthy grapes of crisp, refreshing acidity and marvellous aromas.

Plozner created their own clone of old Friulano vines from the buds of existing first vines and then planted it together with four other clones. This was a complex re-planting project, at a high density of 6,000 vines per hectare, compared to the old 2,000 per hectare, but the result was a full, generous, big-bodied Friulano, redolent of spring blossoms, golden delicious apple, and an unusual tropical florality, in which we easily catch pineapple in syrup and lychee.

In Italian, Moscabianca, or white fly, means something rare, out of the ordinary. This wine is dedicated to Plozner's mother, Valeria, who loved Friulano more than any other wine. Friulano is like your white T shirt or your little black dress: it fits any occasion. This version of Friulano struts a bit more than traditional versions, leaving behind draughts of scent that really open your eyes. Versatile and utterly distinctive, it is without doubt the aperitif wine, perfect for serving at that reception with finger food, but a wine that will love every dish you set in front of it.
