In 1961, Dino Carletti bought 22 hectares of land in the Comune of Montepulciano, and planted the first specialty vineyards in the region. His son, Federico Carletti, has spent the last 20 years managing the winery.
The winery has grown over the years to reach its present size of 120 hectares, all planted in vineyards. Its name is a homage to the humanist poet Angelo Ambrogini (1454-1494), known as "Il Poliziano", who was born in Montepulciano.
