Additional Information

Vigna del Lauro is a series of single vineyard sites nestled primarily in the heart of Collio in the commune of Cormons. Part of the estate is forest, rich in flowers, trees and wild berries. Vines are planted with southerly exposures at altitudes ranging from 140 to 200 meters (450 - 600 ft.) above sea level. Many of the vineyards are terraced (Ronco in Italian). This is a natural preserve filled with wildlife, especially badgers (Tassi in Italian).

The Coser family owns the Ronco dei Tassi estate, tends to the vineyards and makes the wines. Fabio Coser is one of Friuli’s illustrious and honored enologists, standing alongside Livio Felluga, Schioppetto, Jermann and Gravner. Production of Vigna del Lauro wines rarely exceeds 6,000 cases. Coser works with Pinot Grigio, Tocai Friulano and Sauvignon, as well as Merlot.

The 1.2 hectare Mocile vineyard site is planted with two clones of Pinot Grigio. The south-southwest exposure and the altitude of 160 meters (500 ft.) above sea level, coupled with the sandy-marl soil of ancient origin, provide a happy home for the Pinot Grigio vine. The vines average 25 years of age. Harvest by hand takes place in mid to late September, allowing the Pinot Grigio grapes to mature properly.

Fermentation and vinification take place in stainless steel tanks at cool, controlled temperatures. Vigna del Lauro Pinot Grigio is refined in stainless steel storage tanks, followed by bottling and release for sale. Only 8,000 are produced annually.
