Montinore Estate Borealis
2008
The brilliant straw color of this wine is a fitting introduction to the lush aroma of an exotic blend of fresh ripe fruit including citrus, honeydew and casaba melon, hints of orange blossom, yellow apple and strawberries. On the palate it opens up to ripe yellow apple, mandarin orange and fresh melon with hints of lemon zest finishing crisp and dry with lingering sweet ripe fruit character and floral notes.

Additional Information
Montinore Estate is a family owned and operated winery in the northern Willamette Valley that produces Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer and Müller-Thurgau. It's nurtured by two generations of the Marchesi family in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. They combine old-world wine-making learned from their grandfather and great-grandfather Carlo Marchesi. All of 230 acres of grapes are farmed using the strict methods of Biodynamic farming. Their mission is to create unique wines that are true to their varietal characteristics as well as to this special corner of the Willamette Valley.
Biodynamic agriculture standards for a Demeter Certified Biodynamic farm are quite rigorous, including the organic certification prohibitions against the use of synthetic pesticides and fertilizers. Montinore Estate received its Biodynamic certification from Demeter USA (the only Biodynamic certifying agency in the USA) the summer of 2008.
The vineyard’s west-facing slopes enjoy the shelter of the Coastal Mountain Range and are given to luxuriously long, cool growing seasons. Loamy clay soil, elevation and mild climate make Montinore‘s vineyards a great site for sensitive, cool climate varietals such as Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Gewürtztraminer, Riesling and Müller-Thurgau. Subtle variations in soil, light and elevation are expressed in distinctive blocks of both Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris.
The inspiration for this wine grew out of Montinore's enjoyment of wines like Albariño from Spain and Torrontes from Argentina, wines with pronounced aromatics and great fruit flavor but a dry finish. Montinore has been able to create a unique wine bursting with exotic aromatics and ripe fruit flavors that reflects the character of our corner of the Willamette Valley. This wine is made from a blend of 45% Müller-Thurgau, 24% Gewürztraminer, 18% Pinot Gris and 13% Riesling.
