Cecchi is the historic brand-name of a major company, but more than anything else it’s the name of a family. From 1893 up to the present day, the Cecchi family has been a participant in the evolution of the world of wine both as a product and as a philosophy.
It all began with Luigi, when he started his activity as a ‘palatista’, or a wine taster. During the first half of the 1900s Luigi was joined by his son, Cesare, and began to take the first steps in the creation of a marketing and distribution activity beyond the national borders. At the helm of the business today are Cesare and Andrea, who, drawing on the teachings of their predecessors, are taking the work forward with a passion and a professionalism aimed at the achieving of excellence.
Cecchi has about 300 hectares of vineyards, spread over four different areas of central Italy: Chianti Classico, San Gimignano, Maremma Toscana and Umbria. The common denominator of these lands is a vocation for the vine, which is also the starting point of Cecchi’s philosophy.
Teuzzo represents the personal modern day interpretation that Cecchi gives to the denomination. The vineyards of Messer Pietro di Teuzzo are situated in the Chianti Classico area at an average altitude of 180 – 300 metres above sea level. The grape blend is made up of 90% Sangiovese and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon.
The careful vinification calls for 21 days of maceration followed by careful pressing. Aging is carried out for 12 months in barrique casks. The process is brought to an end by refining in bottles for at least 3 months. Strong identity, great elegance, structure and aging potential are the distinctive traits of this decidedly important wine.
