Additional Information

Misterio is made by Finca Flichman, one of Argentina’s oldest wineries. Its long history began in 1873 when Sami Flichman planted the first vineyards in Barrancas, Maipu. The vineyards were planted on an ancient riverbed so rocky and gravelly that they needed to carry soil down from the more fertile Andean foothills. In 1910, the winery was formally given the name of Finca Flichman. Sami’s son went to France to study oenology and returned to take over the family’s estate. The wines quickly gained a reputation throughout Argentina and beyond.

The original estate, the family’s homestead at the foot of the Andes with its brick and stucco buildings constructed behind strong walls for protection from the raids of the Huarpe Indians, has been restored and preserved. The winery has been enlarged and today boasts a cellar with the very finest and most advanced winemaking technology: stainless steel, jacketed tanks for temperature control during fermentation, and a special chai with French and American oak barrels for aging the wines.

The vineyards extend over 740 acres in two zones of the Mendoza Valley, Barrancas and Tupungato. Flichman was purchased by the Portuguese group Sogrape in 1998 and they have been actively expanding the vineyards and investing in the latest equipment and technology.
