Plum colored Merlot expressing Bordeaux-like aromatics such as ripe cassis and sweet leather, yet still maintains the forward ripe cherry fruit that the Napa Valley is known for. The palate is very forward with generous and supple black cherry, ripe plum and integrated tannins, making this wine an ageworthy Merlot. The finish displays firm tannins laced with sweet vanilla notes.

Aquinas, made by Don Sebastiani and Sons, is bottled in honor of Saint Thomas, a Medieval scholar who is said to have claimed "Sorrow can be alleviated by good sleep, a bath and a glass of wine. Don Sebastiani and his sons do things a little differently for California - instead of owning vineyards and a winery (which was the Sebastiani family’s business for four generations) they run a negociant firm specializing in the marketing of upscale, but moderately priced wines.
They’ve got connections, and know where to look for batches of grapes and lots of wines that are far more readily available in Napa than many growers would like to admit. Sebastiani maintains that the conditions and soils in Napa Valley are so amazing, that the grapes and wine lots they select are surprisingly expressive and high quality.
With the Sebastiani’s great contacts in California’s best regions, winemaker Richard Bruno and associate winemaker Greg Kitchens always have a great selection of raw materials to work with. Both winemakers are "foodies" (Richard Bruno spent 12 years in the San Francisco restaurant industry before getting into winemaking) so they’ve got an advantage when it comes to creating the perfect blend from the different batches and lots.
