Formerly owned by the Order of Santiago de Espada, Quinta da Lagoalva is located in the parish of São Eustáquio in the municipality of Alpiarça in the Ribatejo region. Quinta da Lagoalva de Cima S.A. stretches along the south bank of the Tagus River for 5,000 hectares, planted with vines, olive trees and cork trees, and where they raise sheep, bulls, heifers, and horses.
Inspired by the best Australian vineyards, the winery runs along modern lines and combines efficient vinification with a versatile range of oenological influences based on the model of the New World. Through the remarkable characteristics of the grape varieties and a marked personality as a result of its microclimate and terroir, the philosophy of the producer is evident.
"Lagoalva" comes from the words lagoa meaning "lagoon" and alva meaning "white." This wine is made from 80% Syrah and 20% Touriga Nacional that were harvested by machine at night. The juice is fermented in open stainless steel tanks for 8 days before aging for 12 months in French oak barriques. The wine is aged an additional 6 months in bottle before release.
