South America has long been known as a source of dependable, inexpensive wines. Growers have made stunning progress over the past decades and you can now find some seriously attractive wines for just a few dollars more than the everyday bottles, especially if you look towards the less common grape varieties that Chile and Argentina have turned into their own.
PKNT (pronounced picante) is one of these new-breed distinctive Chilean wines. It’s produced by Terraustral Wine Company from select vineyards in Chile’s famed Central Valley.
Made from 100% Pinot Noir coming from the coolest areas of the Maule
region. The alluvial soil has an excellent drainage and moderate fertility that allows keeping the yield controlled. Bunches are cold macerated for 2 days before they are
destemmed, taking extreme care not to crush the berries. Then it is carefully racked into stainless steel tanks for fermentation and it is controlled at a temperature between 20° and 23°.
