Brothers Diego and Alberto Cusumano craft sleek and stylish wines that capture the spirit of the new Sicily. Wine insiders have long predicted that Sicily would one day become one of Europe’s dominant wine regions. The sheer number of prime vineyard sites available, the diversity of microclimates and soils throughout the island, make it possible for Sicilian winemakers to work not only with exciting native varietals, but also with many international grapes.
The Cusumanos are third generation winemakers. Their new winery at Partinico is a minimalist Mediterranean architectural showcase built in 2003. Grapes from the best vineyard sites all over Sicily are vinified in the cellar complete with all of the modern winemaking equipment an oenologist could dream of.
Made from 100% Pinot Noir, these grapes enjoy a cool but sunny microclimate in the vineyards of Ficuzza. Maceration is for 2 days at 12° C, and 12 days malolactic fermentation. The wine is then aged in French barriques for 8 months. The grapes come from Salemi and Monreale zones located at an altitude of 250 meters above sea level.
