Castello di Verrazzano Sassello
Deep and impenetrable color of an intense ruby red, enhanced by purple
overtones. The fragrance is fine and intense, wide and persistent, and offers a variety of fruity notes including cherries, blackberries, raspberries underlined by hints of oak and vanilla. The taste is elegant and complex with closely woven tannins both smooth and pleasant joined to notes of fruit and spice, oak and vanilla, with an equally pleasant and long finish. Goes well with roasts, game and ripe cheese.

The spirit and industry of Verrazzano's youthful owners, Luigi & Silvia Cappellini, have played a major role in the burgeoning reputation of this ancient estate in the Greve district of Tuscany's Chianti Classico zone. 105 acres of vines thrive in Verrazzano's limestone-rich soil. Though present in southern areas of Chianti Classico, limestone is unique to Verrazzano in the cooler, northern sector, accounting for the singular blend of muscularity and finesse evident in Verrazzano wines.
The production of Sassello, which began in the early 80s, was placed within the movement of the Supertuscans because at that time the product specification did not permit that a 100% Sangiovese would be classified as a Chianti Classico. Sassello
has collected a considerable success over the years. Now that the rules of production have changed and research has settled with the best solutions for this wine, Sassello can finally be as signed the Appellation representing the highest expression of the "variety - terroir" combination of Chianti Classico.
This 100% Sangiovese wine undergoes fermentation in small quantities (50 hl. each) at a controlled temperature with a maximum of 30°C, a maceration period of about 15 days with delicate pumping over and fulling. It's aged in Chateau lièe type barriques (75% Allier - 25% Vosges) for a period of 18 months, followed by a minimum of 6 months refining in the bottle.
