Septima Cabernet Sauvignon
A stunning wine for the price. It’s got concentrated black cassis on the nose, complex fruit and subtle oakiness on the palate but it has none of the harsh tannins one often encounters in South American Cabernets. Excellent length.
$16.00 / Bottle $192.00 / Case
Septima offers a lot of wine for the price! Serve it to your friends and have them guess how much it cost - don’t be surprised if they think you paid $20!
The barrel aging cellar at Septima’s modern winery.
Argentina offers great values, as this wine proves, but Septima has the added advantage of benefiting from the experience of its Spanish parent company, Grupo Codorniu.
Septima is only six years old, but they were able to get into the game quickly by selecting and purchasing some of the finest vineyards in Mendoza.
No expense was spared in building the winery either, which includes an aging cellar that holds over 1500 barrels!
This Cabernet is a blend of grapes hand-harvested in the Mendoza River and Uco Valley. The grapes from Uco Valley underwent a cold soak maceration for three days prior to fermentation in stainless steel tanks. Total maceration lasted 30 days.
The grapes from Mendoza were fermented separately without the cold soak process. Both wines were aged separately in American oak barrels for six months before finally being brought together for the final blend.
This rich, full-bodied wine can be enjoyed now or will improve in the bottle over the next few years. Try with beef brisket marinated in a spicy dry rub.
