Translated from the Spanish word for “estate,” the name emphasizes conviction that the world’s best wines capture the essence of their place of origin. At Estancia, they control this process from the start—from their experimental vineyard block trials to planting, harvesting, fermenting, and aging the wines.
Their Monterey-based winery allows them to devote the same detailed attention that they give their California estate vineyards. Open-top fermenters and small basket presses allow them to create exceptional Pinot Noir, and new red-wine fermentation tanks are individually matched to a myriad of diverse vineyard blocks. It’s this unwavering devotion, from the vineyard to bottle, that results in the consistent, superior quality.
This Meritage is made from a blend of 61% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, and 12% Petit Verdot. It's aged for 4 months in French and American barrels, 40% new.
