The Zuccardi family has been living in Argentina since the late 1800’s but it's only fairly recently that they've been growing grapes and making wine. The Zuccardis got into the wine business in a roundabout way. Don Alberto Zuccardi owned an irrigation company and in 1963 he planted his first vineyards in Maipu to demonstrate the effectiveness of his systems. Today the Zuccardi family has over 400 acres of vineyards in Maipu and Santa Rosa.
Since the late 1990’s the family has been converting all of its vineyards to organic farming. Most of the Zuccardi’s vineyards are organic certified now. The Zuccardis have developed their own training system, a variation of the traditional Parral system. Their choice of the desert of Santa Rosa for their vineyards was daring at the time, but arid climates are beneficial for organic winegrowing practices.
Winemaker Rodolfo Montenegro supervises every aspect of production from the vineyard to the bottle. In 2003 Rodolfo selected a group of indigenous yeasts from their own vineyards.
