With a history of more than 70 years, San Nicolas is considered one of the oldest Chilean Vineyards, first planted with noble French varietals in the 1930’s. The Estate and vineyards were acquired by Santiago Achurra, a viticulturist in 1961. The winery was recently constructed, when Santiago Achurra Jr. joined the family operation as a winemaker.
Although it is an ultramodern and efficient facility, the grapes are hand-harvested and require no trucking as the winery sits in the middle of the vineyard. All San Nicolas wines are currently and authentically “Estate-Bottled” with 100% varietal, unless stated otherwise, giving the wine unique character.
The Merlot grapes making this wine are hand-picked. Prolonged maceration on the skins in stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature, and then aged in stainless steel tanks and oak barrels.
