The best of both worlds. There are loads of decent inexpensive wine on the market so why should you try one from South Africa?
Two Oceans wine takes its name from the two oceans that converge at the Cape of Good Hope, the warm Indian and the chilly Atlantic.
They’re better and more interesting than much of the competition, that’s why. South African vineyards grow under the best possible conditions.
Two Oceans’ winemaker Thinus Kruger works closely with a team of viticulturists under the direction of Bennie Liebenberg to source all their grapes from premier vineyards within the Cape’s Coastal region, where a temperate climate prevails.
Vineyards are cooled in summer by day-time maritime breezes from both oceans. Overnight the ambient temperature drops, which allows the grapes to ripen slowly developing intense flavors.
This wine is made from a blend of 60% Cabernet and 40% Merlot. Each different lot of grapes was vinified separately so fermentation could be individually tailored to the different grapes.
The juice was left to macerate on the skins for five to seven days. Then the skins were removed, pressed and a small part of the pressed juice added back and fermentation was completed. This technique gives the wine more body and color. The final blend was made after fermentation was complete and before bottling.
Serve this easy-drinking wine with a casual outdoor meal, spinach and mushroom lasagna or any red meat.
