In 1987 Roberto Voerzio decided to leave his family's wine business and strike out on his own. With the help of his wife, he undertook the slow and arduous task of purchasing and leasing some of the best vineyards for first growth Barolo.
One of the hallmarks of Voerzio’s viticultural practice is the meticulous care and attention he lavishes on each vine. Cultivation methods are simple: fertilization is carried out by hand so that the health of each plant is individually addressed. This establishes a perfect equilibrium in the vineyards and allows for uniform maturation of all the vines. High density planting, a trade mark of Voerzio’s vineyard management, translates into extremely low yields. His Barbera vineyards are planted with up to 3,240 vines per acre, and his Nebbiolo vineyards at 1,618 vines per acre. For some of his flagship wines Roberto Voerzio often harvests only a couple of grape clusters per vine.
This extremely attentive approach to viticulture has earned Roberto Voerzio numerous accolades, and his wines are considered authentic masterpieces, sought-after by collectors and wine lovers worldwide.
In the region of Piedmont, Dolcetto is the wine of choice for everyday meals. Roberto Voerzio produces 15,000 bottles of this wine from the clay and calcareous soils of the Priavino vineyard. Picked in mid-September, the grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks, and the wine is aged for five months in bottle.
