Additional Information
Citra is one of Italy’s foremost wine producers. The Abruzzo region on central Italy’s eastern coast is a relatively unspoiled landscape perfect for grapevines which have thrived for over a millennia.
The winery itself is the fruit of over 7000 small growers who banded together in 1973 to produce wine collectively from their vineyards. Not content to simply throw all of their grapes together in giant tanks and be satisfied with mediocre quality wines, these forward thinking farmers sacrificed their short-term gain.
They reinvested the benefits, sometimes going so far as to supplement them from their own personal savings, to create a first-rate, impressively modern winery. These men and women were firm believers in the potential of the wines of Abruzzi.
Their commitment to success has paid off. Other growers soon took notice, and their number has grown to over 10,000 making Citra the leading winery of Abruzzo. The wines have proven themselves on the international market, the true test of a wine’s worth. They have a reputation for consistently producing honest, well-made wines.
Grapes for this Pinot Grigio are harvested from hillside vineyards in the province of Chieti, in central Italy’s coastal Abruzzi region. The must is obtained through a gentle pressing of the grapes then fermented in a pure state at controlled temperatures.
