If you hesitate opening red wines in the summertime because you think they may be too heavy for the warm weather, Tintico is just the wine for you!
Harvest in Navarra where things are still done by hand.
This Tempranillo is from the Navarra region in northern Spain at the feet of the Pyrenées Mountains, not far from the French border.
Castillo de Monjardín is along the famous pilgrimage route from Paris to Santiago de Campostella. Its proximity as well as its historic cultural links to France are reflected in its winemaking traditions which are heavily influenced by French techniques and the choice of French grape varietals in many of the vineyards.
Castillo de Monjardin has 370 acres of vineyards. The mineral-rich terrain is comprised of gentle slopes at an average altitude of 1800 feet. The vineyards are cooled by the “Cierzo” wind which blows down from the Pyrenées Mountains providing a unique microclimate for the grapes.
Proprietor Victor del Villar and Oenologist Ramiro Cruza have teamed up to produce this easy-drinking red wine that is a delicious example of Navarran style.
They prefer to showcase vibrant flavors, purity of the fruit and firm, tight structure in their wines. Their winemaking goal is to allow the terroir to shine through in the finished wine.
Tintico is made from 100% Tempranillo, Spain’s most famous indigenous grape variety. After harvest the grapes are crushed and destemmed first then pumped into temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for fermentation. No oak is used at all in the winemaking process.
Tintorico is a great wine to serve at a picnic or outdoor barbecue. You can even serve it slightly cool on a warm summer day!
