Santa Alicia captures the taste of the Andes in its wines. The original estate, the House of Pirque, was founded by Máximo Valdés in 1954!
Santa Alicia’s vines below the Andes.
He planted vineyards on the outskirts of the Chilean capital Santiago. Four generations of the Valdés Family have expanded the vineyards and winery.
The estate bears the name Santa Alicia in honor of the women in the family who carry on that name in each generation.
Today Santa Alicia’s vineyards are situated in three different locations in the Maipo Valley: Pirque, Maria Pinto and Melipilla.
This 100% Carmenère is made from vineyards primarily in Melipilla. This region has a sub–humid Mediterranean climate, with summer highs reaching 30ºC or more.
Two distinct terroirs may be distinguished in Melipilla. Piedmont slope piedmont featuring thin, granite, angular rock and very low water retention. Lower down are alluvial plains with high clay content that provide ideal conditions for good moisture retention.
The wine is vinified in stainless steel tanks for 7 - 10 days and is aged for eight months in 100% American oak before bottling and release.
